Round 4 - 2nd match, more composed

Round 4
Rock Lobsters vs ?
Score: 2 - 5

Best: Pete
Goals: 2 Pete

Team: Chris, Pete, Ray, Sylvia (Injured), Vic (late inclusion)
Injured: Em (neck) - test, Ree (foot) - test, Sylvia (leg) 2-3 weeks

The Rock Lobsters already hampered by injury with Em and Ree sitting on the sidelines suffered a pre-match leg injury to Sylvia who’s mobility was severely restricted and was confined to goal keeping duties. This damaged the Rock Lobsters rotation ability as the four active players had to be in the field at all times. This should have given the opposition a clear physical advantage. Their team consisted of two females and five males who were strong without being dominant thus giving them 2 players on the bench to rotate through.

Fortunately for the Rock Lobsters, the late inclusion of Vic, who has been playing regular indoor soccer for years, helped marshal the backline and cut out too many scoring opportunities. The Lobsters went down 0-3 in the first half but a spirited fight back in the second half saw the Lobsters claw back to 2-3. Fatigue settled in late in the game for the Lobsters and the opposition was able to capitalise getting two cheap late goals to seal the match at 2-5. However, it took them till this point in time to realise the goal keeper was injured and to start firing more long range bombs.

A monster effort was given by Sylvia who battled through injury to see out the game in goals however best on went to Pete who was able to gut run, chase and tackle to the last minute. His tenacity often created something out of nothing and he was unlucky not to have come away with more than 2 goals for his efforts. His performance was very gutsy and an inspiration to his team mates.

The game was a hard fought physical match and should be more even next time.

Some promising signs Lobsters. The pieces seem to be falling into place. The first win cannot be far away.
